          no one bothers
          with the leftovers
          dogwood berries

               a vulture tugs
               sinews from the road

          old dreams
          rotting in the sun
          a striped bass

              the migrant farmer's
               heavy load of grapes
               stained boots

          the number of dead
          rubs off the page

               spattered grease
               grandma's recipe
               for black pudding
